A Few of My Favorite Things...And My Book Dreamcatcher Giveaway!

I turned 30 today... I drank in the morning sweet and quiet at my desk
and made my way through my day with a full heart.

I've felt 30 for a long time now. I have a feeling that this decade fits my soul better than the last one did, and I'm ready to dive in and enjoy it.  No mourning here for lost youth.  I've been given 30 years to wear on my back, and I will keep each one wrapped tight as I journey through the years ahead.

I thought it would be fun to do a little listing of the things that I am loving in my life right now... whether lighthearted or things that have made me grow and learn...  AND give away a copy of my book, Dreamcatcher, because...well, it's my birthday, and I want to.

So without further ado, a few of my favorite things {you will find my list book heavy. It's how I roll. Sorry, not sorry :) }.  Oh, and none of the links to Amazon are affiliate or anything, just there for ease of snooping and shopping.

The book Fancy Feet.  Written by Heidi Cave, a writer I first fell in love with through her words about her family and life, only to find out after my initial "this girl is awesome" decision, had this amazing, inspiring story within her.  I loved tucking up with this book and having affirmed that my friend Heidi, was in fact awesome.

Currently on Repeat as I write: Pines by A Fine Frenzy.  Earthy, soft, powerful, and peaceful all at once, this album helps me stay grounded and in touch with elements I need to create.

Tell the Wolves I'm Home  by Carol Rifka Brunt. A story of grief, coming of age, and redefining roles in love, this book is one that I didn't want to put down and handled grief and relationships so well. Love it.

I wouldn't write anything if I didn't have like 30 of these V5 Pens on my person at all time.  Seriously.  They are like another finger for me... I don't know how I would write without them.  Wondering now as I type, if that is seriously neurotic. If it is... well, then... I totally don't require these to write.  I'm super easy breezy with such things.

Filling my house: Warm Rustic Woods scented cubes and candles.  Just like with the Pines album, this smell grounds me in the things I love.  Autumn is here, and I welcome her gladly, her woodsy smell most of all.

Recovering Ramona by Kristin Russell.  A great book about music, and rediscovering who you are.  This is a great read for music lovers, written by a great Nashville writer.  I mean, check out the front endorsement by Rosanne Cash. How could you go wrong?

Speaking of Rosanne Cash, I would be remiss not to put my brother, Cory Chisel's music on this list.  He has and always will be one of my biggest inspirations.  There isn't a place this guy goes that my heart doesn't feel the pull of.  And I am so proud to watch the road that he is on currently... it feels deeper and more true than ever before, so glad people like Rosanne Cash can feel it too.  Here's a short clip of them just last week at the AMA awards.

And, finally for this edition.... my book, Dreamcatcher.  I've only got one more of these sweet ones hanging out at home before I have to make a new order, so it only seemed right to give her away to someone.  All you have to do is leave a comment to be entered.

If you share on Facebook or on Twitter let me know that too {Tag Pohlkotte Press on FB, @tarapohlkotte on Twitter, or come back and leave an additional comment}, for additional entries for every time you share.

I'll be back later this week, Sunday night, with a few more of my favorite things and announce the winner of Dreamcatcher!

  6. I feel like I know you more just by reading your list and sniffing your Rustic Warm Woods (with a little help from my imagination, of course). When we meet (someday ...), I will present you with a brand-spankin-new package of V5's. Because neurotic or not - I love me some quirks in my friends!

Welcome to your 30's ~ you're in good company. :)

  7. Happy Birthday! I felt like you do when I turned 30. So many people bemoan turning 30 and I just didn't feel this way. I feel good in my thirties. Love a Fine Frenzy - heard about them first on one of the Twilight soundtracks and just love their sound.

  10. I hope your birthday was fantastic! 30 is a good year, the start of a good decade. I definitely get what you're saying about feeling more comfortable as a 30 year old. I felt that way, too....and very soon, I'll be 33. :) Thanks for sharing this list! I'll be looking a lot of it up.

  12. Happy Birthday, Tara!

I love how you said, "This decade fits my soul better." When I read your writing, I don't think of an age, but when I think of how deeply your words stir my heart, it's hard for me to believe that just last week you were in your 20's. :-) You are blessed with a precious gift, indeed, and your journey of writing is going to take you to beautiful places. This is just the beginning, friend. You are special, truly.

I enjoyed reading your favorite things, and I'm always blessed to see your writing show up in my email inbox. Many blessings to you in the coming year! xoxo

p.s. I think it's sweeter than sweet that you are giving away a copy of your book. I want you to know that my comment here is without agenda. I truly wanted to stop by to wish you a happy birthday. I'm stepping away from social media, and I haven't been on facebook, so I couldn't wish you happy birthday there. "Heart" is so important to me (as I know it is you, too), so I will graciously bow out of the give-away.
